Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center - In order to expand this Vermont hospital’s prominent in-patient rehabilitation center, Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center repositioned a former 25 bed skilled nursing unit adjacent to the hospital. The new suite provides 10 private acute rehabilitation beds with accessible toilet and shower facilities along with treatment areas for OT, PT, Speech Therapy and Home Simulation. The project enabled the expansion of the hospital’s out-patient rehabilitation center with a cutting edge Bioness Vector system. The project also allowed for the conversion to single occupancy rooms throughout this 25-bed critical access hospital and updated the hospital’s pharmacy to bring it into USP 797 compliance. The goal of the project was to create a comfortable healing environment for rehab patients which matches the quality of care that the patients experience from the staff. The multi-phased renovation impacted about 20,000 sf of the hospital and careful consideration had to be made when working adjacent to occupied patient areas. Staff members of DeStefano Architects were also involved in the master plan of the hospital and a prior renovation to create a family hospice suite.
